Many thanks to Kay Packer for providing a review and the set list.

“Akin Zuie” performed a concert at Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) on January 19, 2005 in Lewiston, ID. This concert was the second appearance in two years for them at LCSC. The concert was attended by over 150 individuals from the campus and community which began at 7:00 pm and continued until 9:30 pm. Their quick stay in Lewiston was chocked full with an on-air radio interview and a school demonstration at the local high school. The demonstration allowed them to work with and give insight to the students involving their music and styles of performance. Additionally, several students jammed and did improvisation with them. “Akin Zuie” kept the audience mesmerized with their high-energy performance at their evening concert. Steve, Pete and Jeff seemed encompassed and possessed by their music. They had an impeccable groove and tight performance that was well received and they were energized by the audience’s response. I had not seen Jeff perform with Steve and Pete before this evening. Definitely, his performance added a new dimension to each song giving an additional layer and texture to the rhythm. Pete’s drumming was phenomenal and I was totally mesmerized watching him. His backing vocals add a haunting dimension to the songs. Steve’s performance was equally as charged. He related the meaning behind several songs and the audience responded with high regards. Steve debut their new single, “Nothing You Can Do”! This song is so outstanding - I felt honored when Steve gave me a copy. I personally enjoy listening and watching jazz/fusion elements being performed. They are definitely not afraid to explore and discover their music while performing it; most enticing and it seemed inspiring for them. One student from the high school demonstration brought his saxophone and jammed with the guys. Performing “Sloopy” and “Wild Thing” gave the student a chance to achieve a dream - jamming with the pros! All too soon “Thank You” was performed - this signaled the end of the concert. “Thank You” Pete for adding my request to the set-list! The audience was still in amazement as they gave a standing ovation. “Akin Zuie” is so far ahead of its time. Their musical compositions and arrangements were still being given accolades in my email several days after the concert.
